SPICY BHAT

Ingredients:
Rice - 1 cup
Arhar dal - 1/4 cup
Fresh coconut- 1/2 cup (grated)
Potato -1
French beans - 4-5
Carrot - 1
Onion - 1
Tomato - 1
Tamarind pulp -2 tbsp
Sambar powder - 2 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp

For Seasoning:
Oil -1 tbsp
Channa dal - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida - a pinch
Red chillies- 3-4
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Ground nuts - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves - few

Method:

  • Wash dal and rice. Cut all the vegetables into cubes.
  • Pressure cook rice, dal with chopped vegetables. Add 3 cups of water and cook until dal is soft and rice is done.
  • when the lid open; add grated coconut, sambar powder and tamarind. Cook for 5 minutes.
  • Heat the oil in pan; add all seasoning ingredients and fry them.
  • Pour over rice ix well.
  • Serve hot.

Dondakaya Masala (Gherkins Masala) curry

Ingredients:
Dondakayalu - 250gms
Onions - 2
Oil - 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 1tsp
Tamarind juice - 2 tsp
Turmeric - 1/4tsp
Salt to taste


For Masala paste:
Peanuts -1 tbsp, Red Chillies - 3 no.'s, Gingely seeds - 1tbsp, Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp, coconut powder - 1tbsp,  cumin seeds - 1 tsp


Method:
Cut the onions into small pieces. Slit the dondakayalu into 4 long pieces. Dry roast all the masala ingredients and grind to make fine powder. Heat the oil add jeera when it crackles add onions. Fry onions for 5 minutes add dondakayalu, turmeric and salt. Cook for another 5 minutes the add the masala powder, tamarind juice and some water. Cook the curry till the oil floats. This curry goes well with rice and roti.
